From The Ashes is a four-part storyline published in issues one through four of Dynamite Entertainment's second ongoing Army of Darkness series. Released from August through November of 2007, it was written by James Kuhoric and featured art by Fernando Blanco.
Plot Synopsis[]
Having been tossed across the multiverse and fought his way through worlds full of super-powered zombies and werewolves, Ash Williams is finally back in his native reality. Much to his surprise, he soon discovers his beloved Detroit (and the rest of the world) has become an apocalyptic wasteland ruled by Evil Ash Prime, and is now populated by Deadites and mutants alike. After a chance encounter with the mutant midget mage known as Pappa Gamma, Ash learns he must travel across the Dead City and find the "Chosen" soldiers that will aid him on his mission to save the world.
Ash's journey takes him through the unfamiliar city he once knew, befriending a mutant priest with four arms, a stripper with a severe multiple personality disorder, and a relentless soldier that doesn't take kindly to defeat. With his Chosen team assembled, Ash leads a siege on Evil Ash Prime's penthouse for the final showdown between himself and his sinister duplicate, a battle which Prime has been waiting patiently for ever since the original Ash's death years prior. Though the Chosen fall one-by-one, Ash is triumphant in his epic fight, destroying his doppelganger, saving Sheila, and obliterating every single Deadite with the power of the Necronomicon and those three magic words. Though the undead have finally been laid to rest, the world is still and apocalyptic hell-hole...

- The double-page reveal of the destroyed Detroit in issue one is a direct homage to the original ending of the Army of Darkness film, where Ash discovers he has awakened in an post-apocalyptic London.
Continuity Notes[]
- The events of Army of Darkness vs. Re-Animator, The Death of Ash, and Marvel Zombies Vs. The Army of Darkness are mentioned.
- The Red Demon and The Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse make cameo appearances in issue four, setting up the events of the following story line The Long Road Home.
- In issue two, the Mutant Solider sticks a broken double-bladed knife in his bleeding stump after Ash cut off his hand. Jason Voorhees would later do something similar with his machete after losing his own hand to Ash in the first Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash series.
