The Long Road Home was a four-issue storyline published in issues five through eight in the second volume of Dynamite Entertainment's ongoing Army of Darkness comic series. The second storyline in the volume overall, it was written by James Kuhoric and Mike Raicht, and featured artwork by Fernando Blanco.
Plot Synopsis[]
Having destroyed Evil Ash and reducing the Deadite population to dust with the power of the Necronomicon, Ash Williams and his girl Sheila still find themselves in this post-apocalyptic wasteland of a world with an even bigger problem on the horizon. With the prophesied "end of days" finally coming to pass, the Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse have been summoned to the mortal plane by a mysterious Red Demon to finish off whatever remains of humanity and recreate the Ex-Mortis for his own gain.
After getting captured by mutants and taken to Cincinnati, Ash is forced to compete in The Boss Man's twisted games as the lovely Sheila is set to be a new concubine. Williams (with the aid of a mutant boy named Wikkie and his pet Bull Terrier named Balls) escapes the area of death and finds himself the newly-crowned king of the Under Zone, but passes the mantle onto Wikkie before heading off to save Sheila.
Sneaking into The Boss Man's private spectating box, Ash and Sheila team-up to kill their mutant captor, but their victory is short-lived as the Red Demon and the Horsemen arrive in the arena. Though Ash manages to destroy one of the Horsemen, he's beaten by the avatar of War itself. Collecting Ash's blood, the Red Demon uses his newly-created Necronomicon Ex-Libris to summon The Dark Ones back to the Earthly realm. While the demons are distracted, Ash uses his copy of the Ex-Mortis and rewrites reality itself using his blood and the book's dark magic. In a matter of moments, the forces of evil are pulled into a purple rift back into the underworlds from which they came, and the world fades to black...
A light suddenly appears, and Ash and Sheila find themselves making out in an S-Mart supply closet as their assistant manager walks in, and all is seemingly right in the world...
