The Demon Spawn were the offspring of the Dark One known as Ruby and the demon Baal. Summoned using an incantation found within the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, the spawn served as Ruby's "henchmen" before eventually turning on their mother while trying to summon Baal upon the world of the living.
The Demon Spawn first appeared in the Ash vs Evil Dead season one episode The Dark One.
Biography[]
Origins[]
It is unknown when the "original" batch of spawn was created, though it was most likely during the age when the forces of evil had total rule of the Earth and it's denizens. It's also unclear whether or not the spawn are the biological children of Ruby and Baal, or simply a creation of the two using their dark magic combined.
Servants of Ruby[]
The Demon Spawn's first known summoning in the 21st Century was at the Knowby Cabin in 2015, when Ruby obtained a copy of the Necronomicon that was in the possession of Ash Williams. Pablo Simon Bolivar, a companion of Williams, was used as the spawn's passageway for their "birth" while possessed by the Ex-Mortis itself. Before Williams could intervene and stop the ritual, a "child" Spawn was dispatched to attack Ash. Williams was initially caught off guard by the child's speed, but eventually managed to catch the demon and destroy it.
Betrayal[]
At some point after the incident at the Knowby Cabin, Ruby summoned more of her children to the world of the living. While the exact means of how this "second batch" came to be remains unknown, it seemed to come at the cost of Ruby's immortality. Several months later, the Spawn betrayed their mother and began searching for the hidden Necronomicon in order to resurrect their "father", Baal. Ruby reluctantly recruited Ash Williams, Pablo Simon Bolivar, and Kelly Maxwell to deal with her unruly offspring in the Elk Grove Crematorium. Upon their arrival, the group is surprised to see that the Demon Spawn have matured into fully grown adults, no longer the "creepy kids" they had encountered at the cabin. The trio take on the Spawn one by one, using the Kandarian Dagger to kill them instantaneously. Ruby, while saddened at the death of her children, decided that their destruction was for the better.
1982[]
The last known appearance of the Demon Spawn was in an alternate 1982, this time summoned by the Ruby of that era and the Baal of the 21st Century. After Ash Williams had defeated Baal in a one-on-one fistfight, the Spawn and their father fell into a blazing rift leading directly into Hell.
Powers and Abilities[]
These demons are capable of doing a number of things making them difficult to face.
Powers[]
- Shadow Mimicry - Capable of transforming and mimicking other individuals shadows. The demons use this as a form of attack, manipulation and stealth when capturing unaware victims.
- Immortality Negation - These demons have demonstrated the ability to take away immortality. When fighting against Ruby in a hospital, they somehow steal her immortal power, turning her into a mortal.
- Regenerative Healing Factor - When injured in combat, the flesh will repair itself from any physical attack such as stabbing or grinding. The only thing that can damage these demons completely resulting in death is a weapon of supernatural forgery.
- Appendage Generation - They can elongate body parts to inflict pain. This was demonstrated when one of them lengthened its claws to stab Ruby.
Abilities[]
These creatures are excellent climbers and have flexible bodies granting them impressive maneuverability.
Weaknesses[]
- Kandarian Dagger: Much like the Dark Ones, the Demon Spawn are also vulnerable to the effects of the Kandarian Dagger. It's unknown if a simple touch can injure them, but a stab definitely can kill them.

- In 2016, NECA released a three figure pack with "Bloody Ash" and two Demon Spawn children (based on the episode The Dark One). An adult Demon Spawn figure based on their appearance in Home was later released as well.
- Trick Or Treat Studios created a head-covering mask based on the Season Two "adult" Demon Spawn.
