So far, three publishers have had the rights to Army of Darkness/Evil Dead: Dark Horse Comics, Dynamite Entertainment, and Space Goat Publishing.

Army of Darkness (1-3) 1992: A retelling of "Army of Darkness", featuring the alternate ending.

The Evil Dead (1-3) 2008: A modern re-imagining of the 1981 film.

Volume 1

NOTE: All comics have been placed in chronological reading order.

Ashes 2 Ashes (1-4): Picking up after the final frame of "Army", Ash is told by The Wise Man from 1300 A.D. that he has arrived too early (Before the events of The Evil Dead) and find the Necronomicon to set things right!

Tales of the Army of Darkness (One-Shot): a collection of short stories featuring Ash, Shelia, and others.

Shop Till' You Drop Dead (1-4): Shortly after "Ashes 2 Ashes", Shelia has decided to stay with Ash in 2004 and now has a job at S-Mart, but deadites want their revenge for the events in "Ashes".

Army of Darkness vs

Army of Darkness Vs. Re-Animator (1-4): Ash has been sent to a mental hospital for claiming the events in the Cabin really happened, but in the same hospital, Dr. Herbert West (of H.P. Lovecraft's short story and films) is experimenting with the Necronomicon, and it's up to Ash to stop it!

Old School (5-7): People from Ashes' past (and Evil Dead films) return as Deadites in the Cabin to torment Ash for the final time.

Ash Vs. The Classic Monsters (8-11): Picking up where Dynamite Comics' "Monster War" ended, Dracula has been reborn and Ash "The Chosen One" Williams is to save the world again.

Darkman Vs. Army of Darkness (1-4): Ash joins forces with Darkman to stop a Deadite army.

The Death of Ash (12-13): Ash's spirit is sent out of his body and into Heaven, and is now replaced with Evil Ash Prime.

Marvel Zombies Vs. The Army of Darkness (1-4): Ash was punched out of the line to Heaven by a zombified Sentry, and into an alternate Earth where Marvel Super-Heroes are being turned into zombies! Could the Necronomicon be behind it?

Volume 2

From The Ashes (1-4): Ash returns from the Marvel Zombies universe to find that Evil Ash Prime and his many mutants and monsters have taken over the world.

The Long Road Home (5-8): A four issue story arc that will follow the aftermath of Ash defeating Evil Ash Prime and his quest (with Sheila by his side) to repair the damage done to the world.

Home Sweet Hell (9-12): A four issue story-arc taking place after "The Long Road Home" written by James Kuhoric and Mike Raicht featuring Ash, having lost his memories and status as the "Chosen One", battling demons.

King For A Day (13):Ash heads back to 1300 a.d. to find a way to destroy the book of the dead, but soon finds out that he was named king after lord Arthur's death.

Ash's Christmas Horror: 2008 Christmas special one-shot in which Ash tries to stop Evil Ash and a Deadite Santa from destroying Christmas.

Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash (1-6): A crossover with Nightmare on Elm Street's Freddy Kruger, Friday the 13th's Jason, and Evil Dead's Ash Williams.

Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash: The Nightmare Warriors (1-6): Another crossover with the horror film icons, set six months after the first crossover.

Hellbillies and Deadnecks (14-17): Ash has accidentally caused an entire town to become Deadites.

Montezuma's Revenge (18): The Necronomicon transports Ash to Mexico, against his will, where he's forced to stop an ancient god who has been revived.

Water, Water, Everywhere... (19): A special self-contained story from writer Mike Raicht, joined here by artist Pablo Marcos. This story line was originally untitled, but got named in the Army of Darkness Omnibus Volume 3. Ash finds love with a woman named Georgia, only to find she's a murderous succubus and that there may be other chosen ones. Ash leaves her and prevents a deadite outbreak.

Army of Darkness/Xena: Why Not? (1-4):Ash travels to Xena's dimension in order to stop a mini version of himself from destroying that world.

Xena/Army of Darkness: What, Again? (1-4): Xena travels to Ash's dimension to battle against the dead.

Ashley J Williams Goes to Europe (20-21): In Europe Ash meets a werewolf named Brad, a protector and learns that there are a line of protectors, who protect the areas of the world. He also finds that many of the chosen ones before him have been taken over by Hell's Prophet, and have been the cause of many disasters throughout history. The only thing that has stopped Hell's Prophet is the League of Light. Ash and Brad set out to stop it before Hell's Prophet takes him over.

Ash and the League of Light (22-27): Ash travels to different continents of the world recruiting other protectors to help him defeat Hell's Prophet, which has possessed him. Unbeknownst to him, the very people he is gathering may end up being his undoing, as it is foretold the protectors must kill him.

Ash dies, his new League of Light fails to stop Hell's Prophet from taking over causing the world to go to hell. Five years later, a time machine is made by the last surviving members of the League of Light, as they go back in time and stop Hell's Prophet from taking over Ash. The ghost of future Ash warns his past self in a note on what to do, and he saves the world; causing everything to snap back to normal.

Volume 3: 2012-2013

Prophecy (1-7): Ash joins other Dynamite Comics characters to stop the 2012 Mayan Prophecy from coming true. Ash has a cameo in issue one but does not make a full appearance until issue four.

Untitled Story (1-13): Ash teams up with his female counterpart from another universe, a half-dead midget, and a half-Deadite alien to fight against Deadite Nazis, 1920's Gangsters, and Montezuma returns to get his revenge on Ash.

AODHSLogo

Army of Darkness Vs. Hack/Slash (1-6):A six-part crossover with Devil's Due Publishing's Cassie Hack that began in July, 2013.

Army Of Darkness/Reanimator (2013):Ash is teleported to the early 1900's, and meets Dr. Herbert West, who he is VERY familiar with.

Volume 5: 2016-Ongoing

Furious Road (1-5): Another story where Deadites have taken over the world 20 years from now.

Army of Darkness/Xena Warrior Princess: Forever...And A Day (1-4): The third crossover between Ash and Xena.

Ash and the Army of Darkness (2013-2015)

Ash and the Army of Darkness is a reboot of Dynamite's AoD line and is separate from the comic timeline started in 2004 with "Ashes 2 Ashes".

(Issues 1-8): Once again picking up where the Army of Darkness film ended, Ash and the entire S-Mart store have been teleported to 1300 A.D. to find that The Wise Man has become a deadite after reading from the Necronomicon and now leads an army of the dead. The Wise Man sends Ash to retrieve the Necronomicon after he had lost it.

Annual 2014 (One-Shot): Ash hunts for three deadite witches across time and space.

Ash Gets Hitched (1-4): Ash finally marries Sheila, but deadites try to break up the couple before they are even married!

Army of Darkness 1992.1 (One-Shot): Dynamite celebrates ten years of AoD Comics with a 48 page special that include various short stories starring Ash, such as: Promotion Commotion, Rockwellicon, Ash Beyond, and Prelude to Ash In Space!

Army of Darkness Volume 4

NOTE: Although it is called Volume 4, the previous three volumes of Army comics are not set in the same continuity as Volume 4.

Ash In Space (1-5) Ash is sent from 1350 back to the present day to battle Deadites aboard the International Space Station.

Evil Dead 2: Beyond Dead by Dawn (1-3): Annie Knowby and a copy of Ash grown from his evil hand fight through Hell to rescue the Knowby family.

Evil Dead 2: Tales of The Ex-Mortis (1-3): A collection of stories involving Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, as told by the book itself.

Evil Dead 2: Revenge Of Hitler (One-Shot): The copy of Ash is summoned back into Hell to battle a resurrected Adolf Hitler.

Art Book

Dynamite released a 250+ page art book of all their Army of Darkness covers up until Ash and The Army of Darkness in 2015.

Dynamite's Army of Darkness: Ashes 2 Ashes Maquette

On May 11, 2005 it was announced that Dynamite Entertainment would be releasing a maquette based on J. Scott Campbell's cover of Army of Darkness: Ashes 2 Ashes #1. The maquette was sculpted by Anthony Colella and stands at 13” tall. It has a limited release of 150 pieces with 50 Artist Proofs were released at a later date. When released both the Maquette and AP held a MSRP of $149.99.
